I'm sure by now you've heard the buzz about Apple Cider Vinegar. Health nuts the world over have been singing its praises for many years. However, if you're new to your health journey and you've not heard of Apple Cider Vinegar I'd like to share the reasons why I include it in my daily routine. This might even include some new points for those of you who are familiar with its benefits.

  1. Improved digestion
    I drink one teaspoon of ACV mixed in a big glass of water as soon as I wake up in the morning. Yep, that's all it takes! ACV works in a similar way to drinking lemon with water in the morning; it is acidic on its own but when consumed, will work to alkalize your stomach acid and therefore help your stomach be ready to process food more readily. I see it as my morning balancer - it sets my stomach up for a fantastic day of digesting the food I eat.

  2. It keeps you regular
    Yes, I know that you know what I mean by that. This is a flow-on effect from #1 above; when everything is working efficiently in your stomach, where your food is broken down, your intestines can't help but assimilate nutrients properly from the food you've eaten and pass the not required stuff right through. This, in turn, helps with point #3.
  3. It improves your complexion
    We've all read about how your skin is an organ and if things aren't right on the inside, then it will show on the outside. When your digestion is working, your body is assimilating nutrients to its heart's content and you're eliminating waste easily, your skin cannot help but clear up. It is my first sure-fire sign that internally things are going well. Not only will ACV help to clear up any pesky blemishes that might be lingering around, it will actually give your skin a healthy glow. I noticed this recently when I'd not had my ACV for about a week or so - I was in Sydney for work - then started up my routine again.
  4. It is refreshing
    Without my morning 'zing!' of ACV, I don't feel quite as refreshed. I'm a person who tends to wake up feeling quite dehydrated (read: disoriented) in the mornings so this works as my instant wake up call.
  5. It helps to balance my mood
    Now this one is likely to be controversial but I maintain that for me, there is something about alkalizing the pH in my stomach that also sets my mood to balanced mode. You know how stress causes a higher acidity in your stomach which then deteriorates your digestion? My intuition tells me it works the other way, too. By taking my ACV in the morning, I feel it helps me keep more of an even keel. This is an ever-so-slight thing I have noticed but when you're highly in tune with your body, you can't not notice the little things.

Apple Cider Vinegar has plenty of other amazing uses including as a facial toner, as a home cleaning product, as a remedy for certain skin infections etc. but these are the reasons why I include it in my morning routine. I love it and at under $10 for a big, organic bottle that lasts me a long time, it is honestly one of the most cost effective things you can do to improve your overall health. I make sure to buy organic ACV with the mother (it'll note that on the bottle) because it comes from a better source, and is therefore better quality, but it also tastes nicer.
